Honestly, I'm not a bag person. I don't even know the difference between a tote and a handbag. (Wait, they are different, right?) Anyway, I don't like carrying bags and my general rule is, if I can't fit it in my pocket, it's not going with me. However, all these changed when I went freelance and got myself an Apple laptop. I mean, I carry my business with me, and often I need to give presentations to prospective clients. Apple would give me the sophistication I lacked. Back to bags, a friend gave me one as a gift to my new freelance business. I told him that I don't need nor want one. Then he asked me the question I haven't even thought about. How am I going to carry my laptop? I gave him a grin and asked for the bag back. Once you have you memory needs and budget set, you can start to compare models for weight, ergonomics, and most importantly, screen size. Finding a size and weight that is acceptable to you is important, but finding the correct screen size should be your primary consideration.

Many people are excited by the larger screened laptops, but fail to fully appreciate the impact of resolutions. Most laptops come with a set with an ideal resolution, and switching to a higher or lower resolution can distort text. Some laptops with large screens are set at very high resolutions, making them difficult to read without eye strain. Some of the expensive laptops with 15 inch screens can therefore be more difficult to read and work on than laptops with smaller screens. 1024x768 should be an acceptable resolution for most laptop monitors. Finally, there are networking considerations. By now, it does not make a lot of sense to purchase any laptop without WiFi wireless networking capabilities. Most new laptops will come with this standard, but with older and used laptops it is an item you need to verify. There you can see a large range of branded laptop computers which are being listed for selling under the auction format. Bear in mind, not all laptops are used or second hand laptops, brand new laptops are also listed for selling at the same time. On the day of my research into the Laptops, Notebook Computers category, I wanted to find what was the hottest laptop item listed for auction. So I began to look for laptops that were in the process of being auctioned off and which had attracted more than 20 bids. Out of 140 pages of listings containing the keyword "laptops", I searched the bids out of the first 5 pages of the listings, and discovered 20 different laptops being listed had more than the minimum 20 bids to make it a hot item or favorite. The lowest number of bids was 21 bids for a Dell X300, and the highest number of bids was 38 bids for a Dell C600 laptop. Out of the 20 different laptops being bidded with more than 20 bids, 12 were from the Dell brand, with the Dell Latitude being the most common hottest laptop being sold through ebay auctions. Second was Toshiba, with Sony being the third hottest item.

While the price of the laptop being sold is dependent on many other factors such as age of the computer and the physical robustness of the laptop after physical use ( if it is aged and used before ), and specific features that came with it, generally most of the Dell laptops were within the range of $160 to $295 for a used-before Dell Latitude laptop with the Dell Inspiton 9400 bidded at $825.00

With these facts, one can start to make some preliminary decisions on his or her laptop potential purchase. By going to the ebay category 51148, on any typical day, we can find out what is the hottest brand of laptop computer being sold and at what range of prices, and whether those laptops are within out means for purchase. In my particular example, I found the hottest laptop on offer was a Dell laptop which will cost me around $160 to around $295 for a used laptop computer.

Shopping online means huge savings in terms of time and money, as the auction format allows for a dynamic environment to bid for your intended purchase and allowing you to set a limit on your budgeted price. Review Of HP, Sony, And Compaq Laptops

So do you prefer to call them laptops or do you prefer to call them notebooks. I am partial to notebooks as I never keep them on top of my lap. Jokes apart, purchasing a new notebook computer is really tough.

If you were to read the ads then each computer sounds better than the cat's whiskers. But when you look close, they all look similar. At least the similarly priced ones tend to be similar. So, is there really a difference between one laptop and another? Or should I say one notebook and another?

To answer this very question, I am going to look at three popular computers that are currently on sale and compare them. The read can then take this to be the starting point and evaluate many other options to find the one that works best for them.

First of all, let us consider the HP Pavilion DV6426US, a machine that I powered by the Intel Core Duo Processor T2450. This multithreaded architecture based micro processor is well optimized for multi-tasking based performance. The fact that this notebook comes installed with 1 GB RAM should help run many of the contemporary popular applications at a good speed. It has a 160 GB Hard Drive which is nothing spectacular, but should do the trick in most cases. And the bundled operating system is the Microsoft Vista Premium. And I really like notebooks that come with an integrated WebCam. This HP laptop sure has one of those. In the absence of such a webcam, attempting Video IM becomes a serious pain.

Second let us consider the Sony VAIO VGN-FZ140E/B. This laptop too is powered by a Duo Processor, in this case the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7100. It beats the HP one in terms of RAM, as it comes with 2 GB RAM. Its hard disk is bigger at 200 GB. So, if Freud was right and size does matter then, well, this one has the bigger Hard Drive. The duo-core multithreading micro processor will deliver performance similar to the HP machine. This laptop comes with Microsoft Vista Home Premium.

Finally let us look at the Compaq Presario F572US. Like both the previous machines, this one too has a 15.4" screen. Though it has a dual-core micro processor, the Compaq uses the AMD Athlon 64 Processor TK-53 and not an Intel based processor like the other two I wrote about. Also it has 1 GB RAM like the HP machine. Where I think it scores lower is in its hard disk capacity, a mere 80 GB. It also comes with the Microsoft Vista Premium.

All in all, the machines have pros and cons. I have not listed prices here, as they would change faster than I could type them out. But, make sure to look at the prices too.

Whenever you are in the market for any common consumer good, you find your self inundated with advertising slogans and marketing messages. So, how do you find out what is best for you?

But, customers have reported that it heats up more than the usual laptop. Another shortcoming that some consumers have reported is about the fact that this machine has only 1 USB port.

The Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527 has Intel's 1.73 GHz Core Duo T2080 processor. This processor has a multithreaded architecture for improved multitasking performance. It has a 120 GB hard drive and 1 GB of installed RAM. Most uses find the machine to be great value for money. In fact, it has been occasionally labeled the College Students Computer due to its affordability.

The HP Pavilion Media Center M8120N Desktop PC, unlike the previous two is not a laptop. It has the 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad E6420 quad-core processor. This processor is really fast when it comes to multitasking applications. This machine has 2 GB of installed RAM up to 8 channels of surround sound output, and Wi-Fi connectivity.

So, when you are in the market for a computer, make sure to compare all the features between similar models and only then make your final choice. In doing so, do not forget to consider the price of the different options. Sometimes a missing feature can be added on later.

And then again, you cannot forget the all important after-sales service. There are many horror stories that one hears about service. Make sure to read around before you decide on one computer.
